In the past, key fobs or key tags have suffered from a limited life span due to the brittle PVC plastics used to manufacture them. Having identified these problems early on, ID Data has worked closely with its suppliers to road test various new substrates. ID Data selected TESLIN® printing sheet as it was the most robust, durable and flexible material for its key fobs and key tags.
TESLIN® synthetic printing sheet is an extremely durable material. TESLIN® synthetic sheet is also extremely friendly to the environment as it does not contain any cellulose based materials and does not contribute to forest harvesting. Furthermore, key fobs and key tags made from TESLIN® have excellent opacity, making them perfect for printing barcodes.
Because of our position as market innovators we were able to work closely with Tesco to develop their market-patented bar coded key fobs. The key fob innovation was driven by Tesco’s desire to lead the market with a new Tesco Clubcard scheme that combined practicality and durability.
More recently, ID Data launched a new key tag concept for Europe's biggest loyalty programme, Nectar. The Nectar key tag will be used in the world's largest issuance of magnetic stripe key tags. The Nectar key tag has a five year lifespan and features subsurface personalisation. By utilising compressed encoding, a full track of data can be written in 46% of its normal length. When the key tag is read at the till point it swipes like the regular card.
